Illustrated in graphic detail, this 19th century Mexican retablo represents 'El Senor de los Azotes,' also known as, 'Our Lord of the Whip. The intensity of this powerful image is manifested in the nearly inanimate body of Christ, bound to the column at which he was scourged, and two ominous soldiers preparing to deliver another punishing blow.
