#3389 - Alma de Maria

This very charming 19th century folk retablo represents "La Alma de Maria" or "The Soul of Mary." It is also sometimes entitled "NS de Paloma" or "Our Lady of the Dove." As seen in the image above, Mary wears a colorful garland of red flowers which is surrounded by a radiating aura of light and a deep turquoise blue / green background. In the foreground, the "Espiritu Santo" is represented in the form of a beautiful white dove.

This example is attributed to Concepcion Avila, one of Mexico's most important 19th century retablo painters. His unique style is unmistakable.

Dimensions are 10" x 7."

Condition is excellent.
