#2946 - La Purisima

This classic 19th century "red bole" retablo represents "La Purisima," also known as "La Inmaculada." As seen above, Santa Maria, flanked by a palm, a cypress, is surrounded by billowing white clouds with a writhing serpent underfoot - a reference to the triumph of good over evil. The retablo is nicely rendered with a fully saturated palette of deep blue, green, red, ivory white and exposed red bole primer around the edges.

Dimensions: 14 inches x 10 inches.

Condition: excellent with only minor paint loss.
