| This charming 19th century miniature retablo represents "NS de la Cueva Santa" or "Our Lady of the Sacred Cave." As seen above, Mary, surrounded by a manderola of golden rays, is cloaked in her traditional white gown with large flower blossoms in the foreground. Inscribed "Nra Sra de la Cueva Santa," and displayed in the original punched tin nicho frame - a work of art in itself.
The retablo is attributed to one of Mexico's most important retablo painters, Concepcion Avila - the so called "bee sting lip painter." His unique style is unmistakable.
Dimensions: image size is 5 inches x 3.5 inches. Frame size is 7.75 inches x 5.75 inches.
