#3380 - San Blas

San Blas, patron saint of animals, veterinarians and wool workers, was a fourth century physician and bishop, martyred by beheading in 312 AD. According to popular legend, sick animals would come to Saint Blaise for help, but they would never interrupt his prayer. The dog, or the deer, in lower left, is a direct reference to his patronage.
