This charming 19th century folk retablo represents "San Jeronimo," one of the most revered saints in retablo art. San Jeronimo, patron saint of philosophers and scholars, is almost always depicted as he is here; living as a hermit with his lion in the forest. In upper left, the horn, appearing from the heavens, represents the final "trump of judgement."
