San Pedro y San Luis Rey - #6158
This late 18th century oil on canvas represents San Luis Rey (left) and San Pedro. San Luis Rey (Saint Louis the King) carries a scepter in one hand and the symbols of Christ's passion in the other. Saint Peter exhibits his most identifiable attribute, a set of large barrel keys. The keys are a reference to his function as the "doorkeeper to the gates of heaven." Overall a strong composition with a richly colored palette and brilliant gold-work throughout. Displayed in a handsome ebonized wood frame.
Illustrated in Saints and Sinners - page 56.
Dimensions: 43 inches vertical x 37 inches horizontal.
In overall excellent condition.
