Barro Negro Botija - #4852
A very good, rare early to mid 20th century Oaxcan barro negro 'botija' from San Bartolo Coyotepec - attributed to the Dona Rosa studio. This utilitarian pot, double fired in a wood burning kiln, was manufactured for the storage, transport and fermentation of mezcal, an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of the maguey plant. This botija is hand etched with subtle foliate motifs and various lettering. Displayed on a modern base.
Dimensions: Botija measures 16.5 inches high. Overall height, including the stand is 18.75 inches. Diameter is 14 inches at widest point.
