San Rafael Archangel Retablo - #5921
$2,250
This rare 19th century retablo painting on tin is attributed to the 'Chunky Painter.' His unique painterly style is unmistakable.

This warm and richly painted 19th century Mexican folk retablo represents "San Rafael Archangel," patron saint of eye ailments and safe journeys. San Rafael is almost always depicted as he is here, as a winged archangel with his gourd, his traveler's staff and a fish. The fish, which he used to cure his father's blindness, is perhaps his most identifiable attribute.

Dimensions: 14 inches x 10 inches.

Condition: in overall excellent, original condition with only minor paint loss.
